Update

Recently I have replaced the fuel pump with an electric, added trim rings, and installed an original Saphire radio.

Front End Work

Super Beetles are notorious about front end shimmy and shakes. To fix this I replaced the control and Pittman arm bushings with Urethane and also replaced the tie rods, ball joints, and steering damper. After a front end alignment it feels like a new car.

Getting closer to completion

I'm putting the trim back on and am getting closer to completion. The wheels look good and I am waiting on the trim kit to come in. I am still about 600.00 away.

New Seats in car

I am really happy with how the seat s turned out.

Putting it all back together.

I started reassembling Barney with new fender welting and chrome trim pieces. Everything is slowly going back together. I'm missing a few screws so I will make a run today to the hardware store to see if I can find what I need.

Seats are done.

I got the seats back from my dad and they look like new.

I had MAACO paint the car and it turned out nice. Not Show winning but steet clean.

Bugs are multiplying

Seat Bottoms

Bottoms of the front seats are covered, waiting for a warm day to do the tops.

Dash area

I have the dash area about completed less the new wind shield. I will get it put in soon. The visors were old and moldy so I cleaned them with bleach and painted them with a plastic paint. The ashtray cover I found has a good shift pattern and all the knobs are new.

Seats

Pulled the seats apart and with the help of my father we tensioned the springs and fixed the release mechanisms and re-padded them. Waiting on the covers.

Finished the Carpet

I completed the carpet this weekend. I repainted the visors and installed them and the clips.I also bought a nice rear window speaker deck.

More Interior Work

Here is some more shots of the inside. I Started putting in the sound insulation.

Moving On

I completed the interior panel installation and inserted the back seat. I am now getting ready to carpet the interior. I am also on a parts hunt today.

Brakes are done

Completed the master cylinder change out and finished bleeding the brakes last night. Stops very good now. I started replacing the door panels and I wish someone else was doing it. No fun.

Pulled the master cylinder out last night and it looks pretty rough. I found a replacement for 35.00 but need hoses that will resist brake fluid. I will check out a specialty auto store today and see if I can purchase the hoses and maybe have it back together by tonight.

Trunk Completed

It was getting late so this was the completed trunk liner for under 25.00. It took about 4 hours with clean up and an interruption, ( my daughter broke the washing machine, I had to hand empty the water out and move the washer to the garage). I plan to buy a master cylinder today and start to replace it tonight.

I cut the hardboard with a jig saw and glued the carpet on with a good 3m carpet adhesive.

More Brake Work

I have replaced almost everything in the brake system and it seems like the master cylinder is bad, so I took a brake from mechanical work (no pun intended) and took last night to work on the trunk liner. I made a card board pattern, and went to Lowes and purchased the hardboard and glue for about 12.00. I then found a role of cheap black carpet at O'reilys Auto parts for 10.99.

Brakes are done now on to the front end shimmy. I need tie rods , ball joints, bushings, and an alignment. Hope the weather stays nice.

Started on front drum brakes. I am replacing the pads,hoses,and wheel cylinders.

Back working on Barney

Had a good holiday and even picked up a nice 73 standard while I was on leave. I started working on Barneys front brakes and will post as often as I can this week.
